We had a great time playing over the last month or so in the London area. We’ll be withdrawn back into the hum of machines for a little while constructing new tracks we’re quite excited about. A casual project that formed in the mid-naughties under the original name JJ Wax, Soft Riot’s original angle was “ambient punk”, fusing elements of drone-y post-rock, minimal wave electronics, synthesizer-based cinema soundtracks and a bit of chordal mass composition. Perhaps a reaction to the over-saturation, dillution of community and the perpetual force-feeding of alternative music culture on the masses in these modern times, often these tracks go for the most amount of sonic space that makes the deepest punch. Keeping suspense, tension and velocity rather than going for a loud bang.
But enough about that: SOFT RIOT’s ambition comes from what happens after the loud music is done — you come back inside to the empty quiet sounds of night — the ghosts in the hallways and in your head — the footsteps across the courtyard — the running journal inside one’s head of things gone by and the things to come.
After a small break from live performance Savage Furs will be back on stage at the end of the month, starting with the support of first round new-wavers BLUE ZOO at The Castle in London. We will then have a number of shows in June in the London area including a set for some of our favourite London/Berlin, promoters Brave Exhibitions. Please check the SHOWS section for more details. More information on these shows, as well as future performances onward into the summer will be added in the near future.

SAVAGE FURS 12″ Vinyl/Digital EP is now available for purchase through this site in our STORE. The digital version is also currently available through iTunes and the 12″ vinyl will also be available through select stores and distribution soon. All vinyl orders will ship after March 28th of this month.
The debut EP by Savage Furs will be available for purchase in the month of March 2011 in 12″ vinyl and digital 320kbps MP3 format. Please check back in the coming weeks for the exact release date.
